METAMORA, Ill. – Mammoth begins installation of FieldTurf this week at the legendary Malone Field at Metamora Township High School.

The Redbirds’ new field will have markings for football, soccer, baseball, and softball. The conversion expands who can use the field. After installation is complete, usage will expand to baseball, marching band, PE classes, soccer, softball, and track and field athletes.

“The new surface will make the field our largest classroom,” said Metamora Township High School principal Charlie Zimmerman. “The cost-benefit analysis is huge with the FieldTurf product.”

MTHS selected FieldTurf because the product’s three-layer infill system has the highest-rated safety measures of any artificial turf surface. MTHS partnered with Chris Tyra from MCP to design and lay out the new artificial turf surface.

MCP will be working with Mammoth to complete the project by late summer, ahead of the Community Kickoff on August 18. During that event, students, their families, and the community will be invited to celebrate the new surface.

As a grass surface, Malone Field was only utilized around 35 to 40 times a year.

“We’re thrilled to begin work that’s going to expand the use of Malone Field for MTHS; the school will now be able to use the field virtually every day of the year,” said Mammoth Director of Business Development Derik Budig.

In addition to the installation of FieldTurf, Mammoth will complete base work to ensure the field has effective drainage and a stable foundation.
