Mammoth Hires Olympic Medalist to Direct Softball Development Program
Meriden, KS—Mammoth on Monday announced the addition of US Softball player and former college standout Kelsey Stewart-Hunter to their staff. Stewart-Hunter will serve as the Director of Softball for Mammoth. In her role, Stewart-Hunter will use her experience as a professional athlete to grow softball in Kansas. Before joining Mammoth, the Kansas native was playing professional softball with Athletes Unlimited and was the assistant softball coach for Ohio State University.
“I jumped at the chance to be back in Kansas and to grow the sport I love,” said Stewart-Hunter. “I want Mammoth to be the hub for softball in Kansas, a place where professional athletes can train, where little girls want to play.”
Stewart-Hunter will begin in September, she plans to start by meeting with Kansas high schools and softball clubs to inventory available facilities and training in the state. This benchmark study will be used to determine needs for facility improvements and coaching curriculum needed to make Kansas the national model for softball player development.
Adding the director of softball is an expansion of Mammoth’s vision to further the positive impacts sports have on communities and youth.
“Bringing in a talented competitor like Kelsey is huge for Mammoth,” said Jake Farrant, Mammoth’s Founder and CEO. “Kelsey’s story is the story of Mammoth. She is proof that the Kansas work ethic and a big dream will take you anywhere.”
For Stewart-Hunter, learning the world of sports construction and architecture will be the biggest learning experience in the role. But she sees it as more of an opportunity than a barrier.
“Sports is a universal language,” said Stewart-Hunter. “Whether we are talking about correcting a batter’s swing or the playing surface of a new facility, we all understand sports.”
